Kevin Smith finally gets it right again.

I’m a long time listener to podcasts. In fact I’ve had many a business idea around the medium including, but not limited to, an ill fated local music podcast (kccast.com), a network of said podcasts and a product I called wecancast that would allow people to create small bits of podcasts to sell and producers could buy them and create larger podcasts complete with ads from the network… but I digress.

Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier have been doing Smodcast for at least three years and it’s been funny for at least two and a half. It’s all of the immature humor that makes you want to watch a Smith film compacted into an hour long episode that you can listen to in your car, on a train or at work. You will make a fool of yourself laughing aloud in those otherwise quiet environments but it will be well worth it.

Playing off the success of his fleshlight sponsored funny hour, Smith has now created an entire podcast network featuring the normal cast of Jersey characters. From Tell em Steve dave to Highlands: A peephole history, all of the shows are well worth listening to even if you are pretty far removed from the View Askewniverse world named after Smith’s production company.

Fair warning. ALL of the material is vulgar. There will never be a 5 minute span where you are not assaulted with any number of pre-pubescent anatomy jokes and I say why not. We’ve all got to sit at that damn desk all day, we may as well listen to something in our headphones that takes us as far away from that spot as we can be. The beauty of the new network is that you can have a brand new escape every day of the week.

Thanks Kevin. The Smodcast Network is exactly what I’ve been waiting for.

After I posted this, I had an overwhelming suspicion that Saved by the Bell fanfic actually existed. Of course it does. How could it not? It’s like a Rule 34 of fan fiction.

But I had no idea there would be so much of it. Please allow me to share with you some highlights.

Jessie contemplates suicide:

Jessie then put the barrel of the gun against her head and prayed that God have mercy on her soul, but right before she pushed the trigger, the phone rang, “Hello,” she answered, “Jessie, don’t do this, we’re your friends, we love you.” It was Kelly, but this time she was crying, “Listen Jessie, if you put that gun to your head and pull the trigger, you’re going to force me to do the same thing, and I don’t want to die, I’m begging you, please don’t do this!” Kelly’s soft begging turned into screams of self-induced agony, “Alright Kelly, calm down, I’m still here.” she calmed her friend and tore the gun from her hand.

Stream of conciousness dialogue. Reminiscent of Kerouac.

Ring Ring the phone I’ll get it Kelly don’t worry about it. Hello hey Zack this is Lisa o hi Lisa well I called the gang and the Belding’s they can all come see you their ok and Lisa yes Zack thank you very much your welcome Zack I’m happy to help. Kelly yes Zack everybody can come o my gosh I’m so happy thank you Zack thanks for everything your welcome Kelly I want to do everything to help you because I love you so much. Well we better start driving cause I know we might have to stop a couple of times to go to the bathroom. Ok let’s go babe we should try to get their fast so we won’t be last, Lisa’s going to be first to set up by getting the food and drinks out. Hey Lisa thanks for getting here early, your welcome you two have done so much for me I want to help you both. Anything you need call me day or night I will help you. Thanks so much for helping we appreciate it so much.

The Obligatory Jessie/Slater Sex Scene

Her heart pounded. His muscular hands traveled all over her naked body. She loved it so much she let out a few short moans. His lips found hers and they were now in a hot, passionate kiss wanting each other so much.

His naked frame made her want him even more. Those muscules, that torso, that-well lower area. He was hot, she knew that from the start. She never really noticed just how much. He broke the kiss to ask the question he had ask a bunch of times before. “Are you sure?”

Her answer was the same. “Yes…please” He smiled and kissed her again. She felt a small urge of pain enter her. She let out a gasp. “I can stop if I am hurting you” he reassured her. She shook her head. “I’m ok.” That was all he needed.
